Ski holidays in Saas Fee

Saas Fee is a traditional village with traffic free streets lined with wooden chalets and although you will see the occasional electric taxi or truck, the streets are mostly safe, making Saas Fee a popular resort for family skiing holidays in Switzerland. There are also a good range of nursery slopes and some highly recommended ski schools for children and beginners here. Many of the runs are at a high altitude meaning that snow is almost always guaranteed at Saas Fee and it’s one of the most snow-sure resorts in the Alps.

A lift pass at Saas Fee gives you access to the slopes at Saas-Almagell and Saas-Grund via linking buses and lifts and are certainly worthwhile to see for a day’s skiing or snowboarding. The majority of the slopes here are at a high altitude meaning great conditions are standard, and the mountain restaurants offer amazing views of the ring of 4,000 meter peaks with the village below. The slopes are particularly good for beginners and early intermediates so it’s a great place for families to visit and for newbies to hone their skills.

Après ski

Considering Saas Fee is a small village, there is still a buzzing nightlife here and is certainly worth checking out. At lift-close the umbrella bar SnowPoint at the foot of the slopes is the place to go. Back in the resort there are a couple of terrace bars that also have a buzzing atmosphere. The Dom Bar offers live music every night and ‘Popcorn’ or ‘Nesti’s’ are where you should head if you fancy a party. However too much noise out on the streets after 10pm can result in a fine so beware!

Eating out

In the village there is a good choice of places to go for something to eat. For a real treat head to the Michelin-starred ‘Fletschhorn’ and for traditional Alpine food such as fondue and raclette head to ‘The Vieux Chalet’ and the ‘Dom Bar’ offers bar snacks and burgers. There are also plenty of family friendly restaurants in Saas Fee with games, play equipment, we recommend ‘Don Ciccio’ and ‘Mondial’ which have baby changing, play grounds, and good kid’s menus.

Non-ski activities

Out of your skis, there’s still plenty to do around the Saas Valley. Adventurous activities including ice climbing, snow tubing, and freeride ski tours through the mountains! There are also spas in some of the hotels for you to relax and unwind after a day on the slopes. Indoor activities are in abundance here too with wine tasting, museums, an indoor climbing centre, and even a cinema with a difference- you can swim in the indoor pool while you watch the film!

Summer season

In the Saas Valley, skiing and snowboarding isn’t just for the winter season you can get on the slopes in the summer too! Up in the glaciers there are 20km of slopes to take advantage of even in the height of summer. You can also expect all the other great Alpine valley activities here, hiking biking, and mountaineering, and the scenery is absolutely stunning during the summer.
