Ski holidays in Grimentz

This picturesque 15th century village is nestled in the high altitude Canton Valais, the sunniest canton in Switzerland. As well as panoramic views of the Imperial Crown from the piste, Grimentz is famous for its marvellous off piste skiing. Although not as well known as its neighbours Verbier or Zermatt, Grimentz is overflowing with rustic charm and provides some of the prettiest skiing in the Alps.

Grimentz manages to maintain its ‘hidden gem’ charm as well as being widely thought of as the skiing hub of the Val d’Anniviers. The perfect resort for a relaxing ski holiday, Grimentz has over 220km of pretty slopes and some truly fantastic off piste skiing. Part of four self contained village resorts along with St Luc, Zinal, and Vercorin your lift pass will cover all four and you can easily hop between the others during your skiing holiday.

Après ski

Being such a small village, there isn’t a great deal of choice for bars and clubs, people come to Grimentz for the peaceful mountain atmosphere. There are a couple of bars in the village with pool, WiFi, and music until the early hours and one at the bottom of the slopes has live music, good food, and a lively atmosphere.

Eating out

Many of the restaurants offer traditional Valais cuisine such as raclette and fondue; around the village there are friendly establishments offering crepes, fresh salads, and traditional meat dishes too. Up in the mountain there’s a huge self service type place and also a pretty little mountain restaurant. But Grimentz’s speciality is wine, with around 60 cellars throughout the village all storing the area’s famous tipple Vin de Glacier.

Non-ski activities

There’s plenty to do off the slopes in Grimentz with over 100km of sign-posted walking trails around the valley as well as guided snowshoe trails and 15km of specialised tobogganing trails. For something a little gentler, there’s an ice skating rink and for something really relaxing head to the indoor swimming pool and sauna, open between 2pm-7pm.

Summer season

Grimentz is the perfect destination for a fun and active summer holiday. In the village there are tennis courts and a golf course. In the mountains, there’s a huge network of walking paths accessible via the lifts and gondolas open in the summer, as well as over 300km of mountain biking trails. Adrenaline junkies can go wild with forest assault courses, rock climbing, bungee jumping, and white water rafting.
