Ski holidays in Serre Chevalier

From quaint and traditional Alpine villages to purpose built resort towns, and from night skiing to luxurious hot steam baths, you’re sure to have an exciting and varied holiday in Serre Chevalier. Benefitting from 300 plus days of sunshine per year, the piste is kept immaculate by snow cannons for favourable weather and skiing conditions.

Serre Chevalier is an ideal destination for a varied ski holiday in a beautiful Alpine valley. Made-up of a handful of villages and hamlets following the valley running north-west to south-east from Col du Lautaret to Briançon, including Le Monêtier, Villeneuve, and Chantemerle, the three main resort villages. Serre Che is known for being a great family resort as there are plenty of beginner slopes and the grooming of the piste is excellent.

Après ski

The après and nightlife in Serre Chevalier is centred on the few bars that are dotted throughout the resorts villages, it’s a quiet scene compared to other ski resorts. L’Alpen is the place to go if you’re in Le Monêtier. It’s British run and provides live music, happy hour, and good bar snacks. Loco Loco is a club in the old village which has a good atmosphere, as does the ‘Cocoon’ and ‘The Frog’.

Eating out

There is quite a large amount of choice for eating out in Serre Chevalier, from the restaurants in the resort’s ski hotels to charming traditional stone buildings in the smaller hamlets. There is a restaurant in Le Casset that offers a trip up the mountain in a horse drawn sleigh! Eau Petit Pont is the place to go for delicious traditional French fare and amazing steaks and for something a little bit special head to Plaisir d’Ambré in Briançon.

Non-ski activities

For some time off the slopes, you need to take a trip to Briançon. The village has a full sized ice rink where the local hockey team play- going to watch a game is also a great night out. Briançon has the Parc 1326 leisure complex where there’s swimming pools, sauna, hot tub, and steam rooms. Les Grands Bains in Le Monêtier also has a wonderful spa complex and some amazing swimming pools. There are also plenty of public swimming pools and most of the villages have ice rinks and cinemas.

Summer season

There is so much to do in Serre Chaevalier during the summer season. Lovers of extreme and urban sports will never want to leave, with an amazing skate park, BMX tracks, bungee jumping and mountain scooters. You can even try bungee jumping from the clifftops. White water sports and hiking are also incredibly popular in this beautiful mountain location; and if you prefer something a bit more chilled out, there are many spas, swimming pools, and swimming lakes to relax in. Or why not take a heritage tour or a gentle sightseeing trip on horseback?
